The Texas State Junior Classical League is part of the National Junior Classical League, an organization dedicated to promoting the study of Latin, Greek, and the classical world in high schools. The NJCL has over 50,000 members in the US, Canada, and Australia.
TSJCL sponsors a number of academic competitions for students of Latin, Greek, and classical studies. Each of our five areas has a convention in January or February, and the state convention is usually in April or late March. Our competitions include academic contests, as well as artistic, musical, and athletic contests.
TSJCL and NJCL also award a number of college scholarships and offer many other programs, such as the National Latin Honor Society, the JCL Pen Pal program, and the NJCL Creative Writing contest.

Dear Latin students and teachers,
Salvete, omnes! On behalf of the Texas State Junior Classical League, I would like to formally invite you to our league, one of the largest academic student organizations in the world! Our mission is to pass on the torch of classical civilization to the modern world, as well as develop responsibility, foster brother(and sister!)hood, promote enthusiasm, encourage competition, inspire dedication, and enrich our total growth.
Several benefits come with TSJCL membership. Latin students can participate in diverse academic, artistic, and athletic competitions at area, state, and national levels. Numerous leadership opportunities are available to motivated students, and one graduating senior from each chapter in good standing is given the opportunity to apply and compete for a scholarship worth up to $1,000. TSJCL also offers the Aristotle Award, covering the cost of NJCL Convention registration to one of its members each spring. In addition, teachers and sponsors may interact and exchange club ideas, teaching methods, and other advantages. This organization offers every member the opportunities to meet and connect with others who share a love for Classics.
A chapter must be affiliated with both the NJCL and TSJCL to be in good standing. Sponsors (i.e. teachers) must also be members of the American Classical League (ACL) and the Texas Classical Association (TCA). TSJCL dues are $5.00 per chapter and $2.00 per member. NJCL dues are $2.00 per member. If NJCL dues are paid before December 1st , 2018, there is no chapter fee. If NJCL dues are paid between December 1st, 2018 and April 1st, 2019, the chapter fee is $10.00. If NJCL dues are paid between April 1st, 2019, and July 1st, 2019, the chapter fee is $20.00. TSJCL dues must be paid online or postmarked by January 15, 2019. You may continue to add members to your list after sending the original list by the given deadline. Schools with alternative schedules may have individual membership lists in no later than February 15th, 2019, but should have their chapter dues turned in by the January deadline.
Once again, I cannot express how incredibly thrilled I am to welcome you into our TSJCL family. The JCL has a consistently rewarding experience both academically and socially, and many of my close friends are those I’ve met at area, state, and national conventions for this organization. Every meeting provides new and exciting opportunities to meet, encourage, and grow in community with thousands of other unique, diverse, and yet like-minded individuals brimming with hospitality and kindness. My fellow state officers and I would be ecstatic to hear from you, be it suggestions, critiques, appraisals, or just a friendly hello. I speak for the entire board when I say we’d be more than happy to get to know you. Find a way to contact us at www.tsjcl.org, where you can learn more about your devoted officers. More than anything, we do this for you in celebration of the Classics. The TSJCL has brought me many years of friendship, fellowship, and fulfillment, but more than that, it has given me a second home. I hope that soon you can say the same.
